Tired of the same old New Year's resolutions that fizzle out by February? This year, I'm taking a different approach and embracing the effectiveness of quarterly SMART goals. Here's why Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4 are about to become the new markers of success in both my professional and personal life.

Setting Quarterly SMART Goals:

Start Now, Do Not Wait for January 1st

  • Businesses thrive on quarterly SMART goals, so why not apply the same principle to personal growth?
  • No need to wait until January 1st; there's still a full 1/3 of Q4 to achieve significant milestones and kickstart the new year with momentum.
  • Starting now, allows you to start right away. There’s no need to wait for some big event to happen before you start working towards your goals.

Embracing a Realistic Timeframe

  • Quarterly goals are more realistic, providing a shorter, focused, and achievable timeframe.
  • It avoids the overwhelming nature of a 12-month commitment, making it easier to stay motivated.

Opportunities for Course Correction

  • If you stumble, don't worry. Quarterly goals allow for easy course correction, ensuring that setbacks don't derail your progress.
  • Each new quarter offers a chance to reset and adjust based on life's inevitable ups and downs.

Breaking the Daunting Year-Long Commitment

  • New Year's resolutions often feel daunting and rigid. Quarterly goals break the time frame into manageable 3-month chunks.
  • Think of it as four 90-day challenges, making it mentally more manageable and less overwhelming.

Accomplishing More with Quarterly Focus

  • Quarterly goals facilitate easier adjustments. If Q1 goals don't resonate, switch it up for Q2.
  • Some goals don't need a full year; quarterly segmentation allows for achieving more within the year.

  • Stay hydrated with 2.7 L of water.
  • Incorporate stretching and kegel exercises.
  • Prioritize regular exercise, like walking and ab workouts.

Self-Care

  • Learn a new skill, like French braiding your hair.
  • Dedicate one day per week for self-care rituals (that’s Sunday, for me!)
  • Maintain a daily vitamin routine.
  • Practice meditation to improve mental health.

Family and Relationships

  • Plan regular family activities.
  • Schedule quality time with loved ones.
  • Express gratitude daily (start journaling)!
  • Set aside regular time to text or email friends and loved ones.

Business Success

  • Set specific business goals for each quarter.
  • Evaluate and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Focus on professional development and learning.
