Are you tired of the same old routine of wandering through the grocery store, picking up random ingredients, and then struggling to figure out what to cook for dinner?

Do you find yourself staring into the fridge at 5:30, hoping for culinary inspiration to strike? If so, you're not alone. But fear not, because there's a simple solution to this common problem: the Grocery Shopping Planner.

Picture this: You're strolling through the aisles of your favorite grocery store, and you spot a great deal on pork chops. Normally, you'd grab them without much thought, only to realize later that you have no idea what to do with them!

But with the Grocery Shopping Planner in hand, you can confidently add those pork chops to your cart, knowing that you have a plan in place.

So, what exactly is the Grocery Shopping Planner? It's a handy sheet that you can keep in your purse or on your phone at all times.

On this sheet, you'll list out a variety of recipes that your family loves – more than enough to fill a week's worth of meals. Then, you'll break down the ingredients for each recipe into three categories:

Pantry Staples

These are the items that you typically have on hand, like milk, eggs, cheese, and onions.

Standard Grocery List

This category includes items that are a part of your standard grocery shopping trip. Things you always need to buy, such as milk, eggs, bread, pasta, and canned goods.

Non-Standard Items

These are the ingredients that you may or may not have on hand, but you'll likely need to buy to make the recipe.

2. List Your Favorite Recipes

Begin by listing out a variety of recipes that your family loves – more than enough to fill a week's worth of meals. Consider including a mix of cuisines and cooking methods to keep things interesting.

I like to include all my go-to meals at the beginning, then add in any new recipes I want to try at the end. This way I can keep things organized when at the grocery store.

3. Categorize Your Ingredients

Break down the ingredients for each recipe into three categories:

  • Pantry Staples (absolutely have one hand): These are the items that you typically have on hand, like olive oil, garlic, onions, and canned goods, etc.
  • Standard Grocery List: This category includes items that you definitely or might need to buy, such as cheese, pasta, and canned goods, and certain meats. You don't want to forget these things and if you happen to need extra, you'll be able to see that on the list when shopping.
  • Non-Standard Items (must buy): These are the ingredients that you likely don't have on hand, but you'll likely need to buy to make the recipe. For example, I don't usually buy cilantro unless I have a special need for it, so that is where I put it.

4. Shop with Purpose

Armed with your Grocery Shopping Planner, head to the grocery store with this handy cheat sheet for grocery shopping. Instead of aimlessly wandering the aisles, you can shop for entire meals, knowing exactly what ingredients you need for each recipe.

For example, if chicken breasts or ground beef is on sale, grab it and check over the Grocery Shopping Planner for the meals that include those ingredients. Then be sure to pick up the other ingredients so you can make full meals!
