Learn the three steps you need for a basic skin care routine.

About a year ago, I noticed tiny, colorless pimples all over my forehead. It didn't look good, and I needed to do something about it. So, I went to the store and got this cream called benzoyl peroxide. I used it for about a week, and guess what? It worked like magic! I couldn't believe how those annoying bumps on my forehead nearly disappeared. It was like a magic trick right before my eyes!

This got me really interested in taking better care of my skin. One day, I was chatting with my good friend Charmaine, and she told me about some cool skin products from a brand called La Roche-Posay. She'd been using their stuff for years and showed me her cream cleanser and sunscreen. I thought, "Why not give it a try?" So, I went to the store and bought a few of those products. I used them for a while, and I fell in love with my nighttime skin care routine.

Around the same time, I started watching some awesome folks on YouTube like Mixed Makeup, Dr. Dray, and Cassandra Bankson. They taught me so much about skin care, like anti-aging products, what foods are good for your skin, how to keep it hydrated, and much more!

I started my skin care routine with high hopes. I stuck with it for a few months, but then, I kinda fell off the wagon. Now, I do it every so often, but not every single night.

But you know what? I'm determined to get back into a routine, making time for myself each night to take care of my skin. I hope it's not too late to make my skin happy again.

If you're like me and you want to start your own skin care routine, I've got some recommendations based on what I like and what I learned from the skin care experts.

the basics

to start with

01

Cleanser

You've got to wash your face. It's important!

02

Lotion

After that, don't forget to put on some hydrating lotion.

03

Sunscreen

And lastly, use sunscreen. Choose from either a chemical or a barrier sunscreen. Chemical ones can sometimes make your skin tingle or sting, so be careful around your eyes. I like Elf Superglow and Australian Gold tinted sunscreens.

That's the minimum to begin with. But if you're ready for more, here are some extra products to think about:

  • After washing your face but before putting on lotion, you can try vitamin serums. Be sure to check if they can be used together. Start with water-based serums first and finish with oils before lotion.
  • When you apply these, don't rub too hard. Just gently pat or press them onto your skin. Rubbing can make your skin age faster.
  • Depending on your skin, you might only need to splash your face with water in the morning, pat it dry, and then start your makeup routine. If you have oily skin, you might want to wash your face and do a morning skin care routine before makeup.
  • For removing makeup and sunscreen, try a double cleanse. First, use an oil-based cleansing balm to get rid of the oily stuff on your face. This will also help with mascara and eyelashes. After that, use a cleanser like CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser to wash it all away. You'll have fresh, makeup-free skin!
  • Now that your skin is clean, use a tonic to balance the pH of your skin. It gets your skin ready for more care and works as a gentle exfoliant. These are better than scrubs with rough particles because they can sometimes damage your skin with tiny scratches.

That's it! A simple routine to help your skin stay healthy and happy. Give it a try and see the magic for yourself!
