Discover my journey using minoxidil to regrow sparse eyebrows after years of over-plucking. Learn how long it takes for minoxidil to work on eyebrows, its effectiveness, and what to expect. See before and after photos and find out why minoxidil is gaining popularity for eyebrow growth.

Growing up in the era of thin, tweezed brows, I fell into the trap of over-plucking at a young age. Fast forward to my adulthood, and I found myself longing for the full, bushy brows that are now all the rage.
However, years of plucking had taken their toll, leaving me with sparse and patchy eyebrows. Simply stopping the plucking wasn't enough to bring back my brows, so I turned to minoxidil as a solution.

How Long It Takes for Minoxidil to Work:
The burning question I had was, "How long does it take for minoxidil to work on eyebrows?" Well, I can tell you, it takes a while. It's not a quick process. The before photo was taken on Jan 20, 2024, and it's now March 5th, approximately 6 weeks later. The new hair that is growing around my brow is definitely very fine.
Does Minoxidil on Eyebrows Cause Shedding?
The package insert does indicate that shedding may occur, however I didn't have noticeable shedding. For me, I did lose a few hairs but I wouldn't say it was more than normal. Of course, you may experience different results.
My First Encounter with Minoxidil for Eyebrow Growth:
I first heard about using minoxidil to re-grow my brows on the show "What Not to Wear." Carmindy mentioned it in one episode while doing someone’s makeup. That was years ago though, and I couldn't find the exact episode.
Fast forward to my wedding in 2013, I tried using minoxidil a few times but didn't see any results. I only applied it to one location where I felt my brow was overly plucked and not symmetrical with the other brow.
I didn't stick to a routine; I used it whenever I remembered, once a day, for only a few weeks. I didn’t have good results and stopped using it, especially because I was planning on getting pregnant.
Well, over 10 years later, using minoxidil for eyebrow growth has become a popular trend. There's now much more information available on how to use it, how often, and its safety.
Before Buying Minoxidil This Time Around:
Before purchasing it this time around, I did more research online. A simple Google or YouTube search led me to a clip of "The Doctors" on YouTube talking about using Minoxidil on eyebrows: [link to the clip]
What to Expect:
I noticed my brows becoming bushier after about 2 weeks, as the existing hair grew more. However, I couldn’t notice new growth where there was only skin before until about 1 month in, applying twice per day (once in the morning and once at night before bed).
New growth was extremely slow, at times making me doubt whether it was working at all. I even questioned if I could grow hair in certain spots or if it just wasn’t working yet.
I highly suggest taking a before photo to compare and see if there's a difference over time.
After Photos (Just Over 6 Weeks of Use):

As you can see, at 6 weeks of daily use, there is only slight hair re-growth. I read online that it can take around 4-6 months of use before you reach your maximum results. So, I'm going to keep going with use and hopefully there is more hair regrowth.
Using minoxidil to regrow my eyebrows has been a journey of patience and consistency. While it's not an overnight solution, with dedication, I've been able to achieve fuller, natural-looking brows. If you're struggling with sparse eyebrows due to years of over-plucking, I recommend giving minoxidil a try.
Remember, results may vary, but documenting your progress with photos can help you see the difference over time.
